Padak Layo-Pad Payo

Days after sportspersons hailing from Haryana brought laurels to the state by fetching medals in the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, Scotland; chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda honored the gold, silver and bronze medalists with Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 50 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh, respectively.

In a felicitation ceremony held at Sonepat town, Hooda honored gold medalists – Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Amit Dahiya, Babita Kumari and Vinesh Phogat with cash award of Rs. 1 crore. Similarly, Rs. 50-lakh were handed over to 14 silver medalists namely Gagan Narang, Seema Antil, Sardar Singh, Vijender Singh, Mandeep and Sakshi Malik, Lalita, Satya Vrat, Bajrang Punia, Geetika Jakhar, Sanjiv Rajput, Anisa Sayyad, Gurpal Singh and Harpreet Singh. Bronze medal winners, including Pawan Kumar and Pinki Rani, were also awarded with a cash prize.
An official spokesperson said Rs. 13.75 crore were spent on felicitation ceremony to honour the CWG medal winners in presence of Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Tanwar, Vidhan Sabha speaker Kuldeep Sharma and the Sonepat Congress MLA.
Crediting the state sports policy for the international achievements of sportspersons, Hooda, while addressing the public, said the medals were the result of pro-sports policy ‘Padak Layo-Pad Payo‘ implemented by his government.
He said Haryana constitutes only 2% of country’s population but has bagged 33% of medals in the Glasgow games. He vowed to stand by sportspersons of the state in giving out their optimal performances in international competitions.
